Newcastle basketballers in NSW Combined All-Schools Teams
The 2009 NSW All-Schools Basketball Championships were held last week at the picturesque Newington College, in Sydney's inner-western suburb of Stanmore.
Men's and women's teams from Combined High Schools (CHS), Combined Independent Schools (CIS) and Combined Catholic Colleges (CCC) met for their annual event, with CIS taking the honours in both divisions.
After the Championships, Madison Allen (CIS/Newcastle) was chosen in the star-studded "Combined All-Schools teams" women’s team to compete for NSW at the 2009 Australian All-Schools Basketball Championships, which will be held in Newcastle in August. Matthew Dick (CCC/St Francis Xavier, Hamilton) was also chosen in the men’s team.

Newcastle Hunters go to beach for next basketball match
The next match for the Newcastle Hunters men in the Waratah Australian Basketball League (WABL) is on Saturday June 13 against Manly at 5pm in the Northern Beaches Indoor Centre while the women’s game tips off at the same venue at 3pm.
In their next game, the Maitland Mustangs men take on the North Bears on the same day at 1pm at home in the Maitland Federation Centre.

World Masters Games – register for sports in Sydney in October
There is still time for Newcastle sportsmen and women to register for Sydney’s World Masters Games in Sydney. Over 6700 people have registered for the World Masters games in Sydney on October 10 -18, 2009. Over 28 sports will cater for participants of varying standards and ages.
For example, tennis has singles, doubles and mixed doubles in ten year age brackets from 30+ to 80+ with A grade for competition players and B grade for social players and beginners. Basketball will cater for social to elite teams from 30+ to 70+ in 5 year ranges.
Other sports include archery, basketball, football (soccer), netball, swimming and touch football
