Di says that having a positive attitude and being happy with whom we are can help us health–wise and to take better care of ourselves as we go through life.
“Your body is your temple,” she says. “People need to learn how to nurture, nourish and honour it. Everyone needs to find their own Signature Style.”
And while she’s willing to admit that looking fabulous and enjoying great health and vitality is not always easy, she says that facing challenges is really a matter of having faith in your own ability to be positive about life.
Born in Sydney, Di attended Ryde High School before going to the Guild Teachers’ College and later La Trobe University in Melbourne where she specialised in special education. She then worked for some time with autistic children who were mainly in orphanages and institutions, before deciding it was time to move on in life.
Her next venture was in advertising which she thoroughly enjoyed and it was while engaged in this work it was suggested to her she take up modelling.
“I recall at the time thinking I could never do that, but I did and haven’t looked back,” she says.
Despite her many years as a successful model, Di recalls the time when she had to deal with life threatening health problems and the loss of her family and friends when she had a run of financial problems. This was the time to dig deep and be positive, she says, and the fact that modelling had made her vital and healthy helped her overcome those challenging times.
Di says her modelling career started when she was a young girl and the fact she was involved with professionals made the learning exercise and the work so much more enjoyable. She says modelling is a fantastic industry which is somewhat devalued today.
“It can be glamorous and exciting, yet so hard and unforgiving. You have to be prepared to give so much of yourself, and your emotions help you keep your career going.”
During her modelling career Di worked extensively overseas in Hong Kong, South East Asia and England and along the way she also compered styled shows, organised fashion parades, became involved in choreography, commercials, editorial and advertising, conducted workshops and consulted to other models and musicians.
In fact, she still has her own consultancy where she mentors and trains girls wanting a career in modelling.
Another step forward
Now she has taken a new direction in life with the formation of Signature Style Workshops, where self-development is the key factor of the business.
These self-development workshops empower young girls and women to be the best they can in life.
The workshops run over school holidays and also on Saturday mornings and cover health, diet, body image, skin care, make up, fashion/wardrobe, etiquette, social and business self esteem, grooming and lifestyle choices.
“I just want to put so much of what I have experienced back into the community. Our signature is unique and so are you,” Di says.
